National Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization, dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and historical properties, and securing America's future through better education for our children. The Drum Hill Chapter, NSDAR, also is involved in raising funds for local scholarships.

The History We Never Knew: Looking at our Past Through Schoolgirl Samplers

Alexandra will talk about the history we were never taught, the story of the lives of girls and women, that needlework samplers offer us. Tens of thousands of these beautiful works still exist, marking and darning and pictorial samplers, as well stitched maps and memorials and family records, that open up a fascinating way of looking at our past.
